Should we just have Emunah and Bitachon?
“Emunah” and “bitachon” mean faith and trust in Hashem. Even if we accept that climate change is happening, does that necessarily mean that it is our job to deal with it? Maybe we are just meant to place our trust in Him. We mention a number of arguments one might raise in support of this position, which we will subsequently analyse and see if they stand up to scrutiny…

An argument from Hashgacha
We examine the first argument, that since Hashem runs the world, it is not our business to meddle in His affairs and “play G-d”.

An argument from sachar va’onesh
We examine the second argument, that the Torah teaches us that aveirot are what destroy the world, not greenhouse gas emissions.

An argument from “Shomer p’sayim Hashem”
We examine the third argument, that Chazal teach us that we are allowed engage in behavior which is socially normative and rely upon Hashem to protect us from any associated risks.

An argument from “Tamim tihye”
We examine the fourth argument, that the Torah teaches us that we must trust in Hashem and not seek to predict the future.

So what is Bitachon really about?
If Emunah and Bitachon don’t demand of us to disregard climate change, what role do they play?
